Phuket Festivals & Events

As a bustling year-round holiday destination Phuket plays host to hundreds of Festivals & Events. And planning your trip around some of these could make your time on the island all the more exceptional. Most take place on the same month each year but the specific dates may change by a few days.

Once you are here, your Villa Manager will update you on all the festivals, events and cultural activities taking place on Phuket and here we’ve listed some of the major ones to look out for.

JANUARY

The Phuket International Boat Show (PIMEX) covers over 2,000 square metres of air-conditioned exhibition space and about 60 square metres of on-water display boats.

The Bay Regatta attracts around 50 yachts from around the world in what is known as ‘Asia's fun regatta’.

FEBRUARY

Wat Chalong Fair is the biggest of all the temple fairs on the island, first started in 1933 by local farmers.

Chinese New Year (begins 5th February in 2019) is one of the major celebrations on the island.

Phuket Old Town Festival is held in the historical centre of the Old Town with the roads around the Old Town turned into ‘Walking Street’ markets.

MARCH

Thao Thepkasattri-Thao Sri Suntorn Festival celebrates local sporting and cultural experiences.

APRIL

Phuket Bike Week features music, contests, parties and charity rides around the island.

Songkran Festival 13th – 15th April is Thailand's most famous water festival celebrating the Thai New Year.

JUNE

Laguna Phuket Marathon. Alongside the full 42km marathon there is a 21km half-marathon, a 10km run, a 5km walk and a 2km kids race.

Baba (Peranakan) Wedding Festival is held in two of Phuket’s grandest vintage Sino-Portuguese mansions.

JULY

Cape Panwa Hotel Phuket Raceweek is four days of exciting, international-standard yacht racing.

Kathu Festival features street stalls, stage shows, live music, exhibitions and traditional children’s games in the usually sleepy village of Kathu.

SEPTEMBER

Por Tor Festival is also known as the 'Hungry Ghost' festival and it is an important merit-making event.

OCTOBER

Phuket Vegetarian Festival is a colourful event held over a nine-day period around the island.

NOVEMBER

Patong Carnival is a three-day celebration along Patong’s Beach Road.

The Loy Krathong Festival is a festival of lights not to be missed.

DECEMBER

Phuket King’s Cup Regatta is Asia's biggest and most popular regatta.

New Year celebrations take place all over the island and a hillside villa is the perfect place to take in everything Phuket has to offer at this very special time of year.

Phuket Buddhist Temples

Phuket is home to more than 50 Buddhist temples, monasteries and stupas and here we list some of the most highly-regarded.

Please dress respectably when visiting temples the basic rule is to cover your shoulders and knees.

Big Buddha

Big Buddha is one of Phuket's most revered temples and it dominates the skyline around the Nakkerd Hills.

Wat Chalong

Wat Chalong is considered to be the island’s most esteemed temple.
 

Wat Phra Thong (Buried Golden Buddha Temple)

Wat Phra Thong is in the middle of Phuket and has a mysterious legend relating to its founding.

Wat Phra Nang Sang

Wat Phra Nang Sang is the oldest temple in Phuket, it’s believed to have been constructed more than 500 years ago.

Wat Suwan Khiri Khet (Wat Karon)

Wat Suwan Khiri Khet (Wat Karon) has two large, emerald-green serpents standing guard at the main building.

Wat Sri Sunthorn (Wat Lipon)

Wat Sri Sunthorn (Wat Lipon)features a 29m high sleeping Buddha depicting Buddha entering Nirvana.

Wat Putta Mongkon (Wat Klang)

Wat Putta Mongkon (Wat Klang) includes a Sino-Portuguese style mansion that houses the temple monks.

Wat Kajonrangsan (Wat Kajon)

Wat Kajonrangsan (Wat Kajon) is Phuket’s only temple built in the ‘Roman’ style.

Children Activities Around Phuket

Keeping children engaged, interested and entertained is often at the fore-front of parents’ minds, especially when on holiday. And luckily Phuket has a wonderful range of activities and places of interest for children of all ages.

Baan Teelanka is an upside-down house with a maze-shaped garden and a ‘Chamber of Secrets’.

Zorbing at Rollerball

Phuket Aquarium is a fascinating journey through mountains, streams, mangroves, captivating coral reefs and even down to the deepest parts of the ocean!

Phuket Bird Park

The Phuket Bird Park has over one thousand birds and more than 100 amazing species from Asia, Africa and South America.

Yoga, Meditation and Pilates on Phuket

There are a wonderful array of yoga professionals based in Phuket. And their classes are more than suitable for first-timers through to more experienced practitioners. Many offer specialized health programs to heal your body and get you into shape quickly and they are designed to leave you feeling completely relaxed and rejuvenated in mind, body and spirit.

Pilates classes are extremely popular and usually focus on six core principles: Concentration, Control, Breathing, Flow, Precision and Centering. And again all of the studios offer classes to suit every level of ability.

Phuket Golfing

Phuket has four fantastic golf courses namely Red Mountain, Loch Palm Golf Club, Mission Hills Phuket Golf Club, Laguna Phuket Golf Club and Phuket Country Club, all of which have been designed to take full advantage of the island's tropical climate and unique topography. Many visitors come solely to play golf around the beautiful landscaped courses, which make use of the local abundance of water and trees to full effect. Standards are high, ensuring that the greens are green and the holes are challenging enough to stretch new and experienced players alike. Some of the courses have been used for international competitions and world championships.
